Exercise
Walking, biking (support our local shop - Pasadena
Cyclery), playing tennis, cross-country running – all
of these activities are excellent forms of exercise – and
available within minutes of campus. Regular exercise improves
cardiovascular functioning, your mood and provides an opportunity
to socialize with others.
-
Exercise burns off excessive adrenaline
that would otherwise generate more stress symptoms. Also, it
triggers the release of endorphins, the “feel good” pituitary
gland hormones that function as natural opiates.
-
It’s important to make time for exercise,
just like you make time to complete your problem sets, conduct
research, socialize and eat.
-
If you are interested in lifting weights,
check out with the Athletic
Department and find out when they offer weight-room orientation
sessions. Remember, when you incorporate weight- bearing
exercises into your routine, you lose weight faster than through
aerobic exercise alone.
-
Exercise promotes deep, restful sleep – remember,
the restorative function of sleep.

Work doesn't have to get in the way of exercise. For some ideas on exercises that can help promote circulation, boost your energy levels and increase your concentration, all while at your desk, check out the bulletin board outside my office.
With consistent exercise, your health and immune
systems are strengthened, increasing your odds of not catching
colds and getting sick. |
